Yamaha Montage replaces Motif synthesizers

For more than 40 years, Yamaha has developed industry-leading synthesizers, from the revolutionary DX7 in the 1980s to the renowned Motif series – one of the best-selling synthesizers of all time. Now, Yamaha raises the bar again with Montage. Montage, available in 61-, 76- and 88-key configurations, features the Motion Control Synthesizer Engine, a powerful and intuitive way to interact with and control sound.

I never thought I’d see Motif get replaced, but Yamaha did quite a job with the Montage. This is an impressive synth.

  2. It’s almost too much, blending 8-op FM with AWM2. And how does it integrate into the modern DAW (Cubase). Since Halion/Halion Sonic draw from Motif sounds, is Yamaha purposefully not building DAW integration to sell hardware synths? I would guess that a visual computer-based editor would be helpful. And as long as you’re building a GUI, why not add the synth engine behind it?

You know what I really wanted to see? A VST3 synth that would also play through hardware so I don’t need to bring a computer to a gig. Looks like Yamaha got it wrong.
