The iPad Pro was supposed to be the laptop-replacing iPad. Yet, after a few weeks of solid usage, I wasn’t quite comfortable leaving my MacBook at home in favor of it. And it seemed silly to bring two devices with roughly the same-sized screen. So the iPad Pro was the first voted off the island.
While I like the iPad Pro, I don’t yet love the iPad Pro. Certainly not as my go-to computing device. I think there’s a chance it could get there, but it’s going to take some getting used to. I’m just not ready yet. Maybe others who already do the majority of their computing on the iPad are. I’m close, but something worried me about not having a MacBook with me. I’m not entirely sure what. But something.
Much has been written about the iPad Pro replacing/not replacing your laptop. In this piece, M.G. Siegler walks through his logic in leaving his iPad Pro behind in favor of his MacBook. This mirrors my own feelings exactly.
I think this and other pieces show just how far the iPad has come as well as how much we are down to some very very specific criteria for people choosing one or the other now. Considering how people and their use of tech is going, we’re going to see a lot less laptop and tablet use within 5 years anyway.
I’m so tired of ‘writers’ reviewing tech gadgets, specifically iPads. Guess what, not all of us use laptops as glorified word processors. The iPad Pro is awesome and I’m using it the same way I did my iPad Air 2. If I need more I’ll use my iMac.
Can I carry a laptop all over the house while listening to amazing sounding music and videos? I could but not as easily as the iPad pro. How about you try using iPads the way most people use them?
Spot on. Most of these reviews seem to come from people who write for a living and thus the most important thing for them is a good keyboard. Are ther majority of iPad users writers? I’m going to assume not.
I would assume that a VC doesn’t spend most of his days as a ‘writer’. If there is anyone who wants to use the iPad Pro as their primary device it would be MG Siegler.
