It’s essentially a CliffsNotes version of popular music in 2015, the bare essentials of the year boiled down into one five-minute track–with a frenetic video that cuts around to feature the lead vocal track at any given moment. It’s not quite a heart-racing banger, but anchored chiefly by the bass line for The Weeknd’s “I Can’t Feel My Face,” it’s an addicting track worthy of DJ Earworm’s name.
For me, the most amazing part is the editing. I can’t imagine the amount of work that went into creating this video.
Well done but one thing I came away from the video thinking is how formulaic songs are lately and have been for a while.
Wasn’t it here that you or Mark provided a link to someone who had mixed together songs in a similar way to show this?

Formulaic is precisely the word.
I love a good mashup that combines unlikely pairs or groups of artists. The Kleptones, Wax Audio, Brat Productions, Best of Bootie, and Mark Vidler are all great sources of work of this kind that entertains beyond the technical skill needed to mix pop songs.
Yes, almost all Western music is structurally related, but those 50 hits make me think of an assembly line full of homogenized dairy product.
This new piece is expertly edited together, but it sure didn’t hurt that the source material was so functionally similar.

Yeah, it’s a tough one to evaluate.
It’s almost like seeing a finely made cloth quilt and realizing it’s all made with the exact same size squares.
So you think, well that’s not so bad, until you look deeper and see it’s held together with Velcro.
Why is this in quotes? Did someone else say it??
Don’t dismiss the skill it took to time and mix the stuff. I’m thinking this quilt is expertly-sewn with fine silk thread, but holding together cheesecloth and dish towels.
