Glance is the first conference dedicated to the business of Apple Watch.
With more than seven million units sold in its first six months, the Apple Watch platform has already grown larger than the iPhone did in its first year. Given its rate of software updates and unique hardware extensibility, the Watch offers new dimensions for developers to consider.
I’ll be going to this.
Some great speakers and a quite interesting agenda.
We are currently experimenting with an in-house Watch app for facility maintenance (dispatching of work orders, and real time status updates and alerts) and the potential is amazing. This project originated on PocketPC in 1999 (where staff burned through 3 devices in one shift due to battery constraints), then went to the iPod Touch… Seeing how far this has come (one watch does easily cover two shifts and does not get in the way) is great.
Unlike the iPhone, the Apple Watch is an expensive niche product, designed to accessorize your communications experience.
We’ve had enough time to discern what use cases exist for this device category.
Competitors to the watch will flood the market in the next year. Platform hegemony will dictate market share for this device class.
In 5 years the watch will be no more important than any other peripheral in your computing experience.
