AfterPad takes a look at game controllers for your brand new Apple TV. I did some research of my own and their number one choice, the SteelSeries Nimbus MFi controller is tops on a lot of lists.
I just got one, but haven’t had the chance to play yet. I will say this though, the SteelSeries Nimbus is a beautiful, well crafted controller.
If you are in the market for a controller, be sure you verify that the controller is Apple TV compatible. From what I’ve been told, being an MFi controller is not enough.
Just ordered mine for pickup at the local Apple Store. It was in stock. SteelSeries is reporting them sold out and is taking email addresses to notify people when they’re back in stock. If you want one, grab it now. None on Amazon. (Go figure.)
I disagree with Nimbus feeling like a premium product. I echo Marco Arment’s sentiment on the latest ATP episode. It feels like a second rate product that you hand over to a friend when playing multi-player games.
Having said that, it probably is the best controller for Apple TV. I just wish Apple and Logitech would make controllers as well.
