Thanks to Carbon Copy Cloner for sponsoring The Loop this week. What’s your plan when your Mac’s hard drive dies? Plan ahead and get back to work in minutes with a Carbon Copy Cloner bootable backup. CCC—the app that saves your bacon.
Jim’s Note: I’ve used this app for many years. I trust and love it.
My plan is to get a new Mac or a new HD and then set it back up using the time machine backup stored in my time capsule.
Am I doing something wrong?
CCC has the ability to incrementally back up and restore files.
Time Machine’s backup plan is a little more hands off but still effective. They’re both valuable tools and work similarly.
Time Machine is is a good backup solution, but it doesn’t make a bootable copy. If you need to get back up and running very quickly, CCC is valuable.
If you have the time to reinstall the OS, and then restore a Time Machine backup (could take several hours), then Time Machine is fine. Also, Time Machine is great for times when you overwrote or delete an important file – it’s easy to restore a few files.
Personally, I use both. CCC for catastrophic drive failures, and Time Machine for accidental deletions or overwrites.
CCC is also great for keeping a clone or two off-site.
