Can you name these 35 pieces of retro Apple tech?

Alphr:

Time to flex your Apple knowledge, with a quiz that delves into the company’s history and pulls out past classics (along with some lesser known products). Are you an Apple nerd extraordinaire or do you find it hard to tell your iPods from your iPhone? Take the quiz and see how you fare.

As I suspected, I’m not nearly as familiar with this stuff as many of you are. To be fair, I wasn’t around during the time of the really early Apples and Macs so I don’t recognize many of them. Still, I made it to the “Apple Nerd” category of the quiz.

  1. No, but you get a little white plastic box that will store about ten of your floppies. It says “Apple” in ITC Garamond Narrow. 😉

  2. 32/36. Dang, I thought I knew everything! I was around for all of this stuff and owned most of it. Not sure what I missed; must have been stoned during that era.

  3. 35/36. Got the bonus question wrong because they didn’t count the image before the quiz. FWIW, I probably owned half of the items listed.

  4. 34/36. Not too bad. iPod Nano and USB mouse got me. Should have known those. Too much (or not enough) beer.

  5. D’oh! Just missed it. 35/36, and the one I missed I mis-clicked; I was THINKING the right answer!

  6. 30/36… still get nerd extraordinare. Some of those old, old laptops… wow. Kind of scares me how many of the computers I actually used for work through the years…

  7. They said don’t count that one, but it was a little confusing… I love the woz they throw in there to try to throw you 🙂

  8. Exactly the same here.

The quiz was a little shabbily done. Many of the items barely concealed the product name, and the very next question would disambiguate it further. I’m surprised that I scored higher than many of the readers here… maybe I’ve just been watching Apple for many years (even though I was a Windows user in the 90s).

  9. 33/36. Multiple-choice helps. It’s easier to say what some of these are not, than what they are. Also, I got to work on a handful of these when they were new.

  10. I flubbed one of the “early Portable” questions, and couldn’t quite tell if it was a Nano or a 3G iPod.

    So, 33.

  11. Heh…I’ve owned, taken apart or both almost all of them. The one I missed was a misclick, too,

  12. 35 out of 36 (blew the iPod nano question), and I didn’t expect to get the bonus question correct.

  13. 34/36 – Apple Nerd Extraordinaire…I’m highly disappointed in myself. Missed the Apple III and the Mac 540c laptop…sad because I had one of those.
