After a number of short teasers, Netflix has finally revealed the first full trailer for its next Marvel series, “Jessica Jones,” and it’s going to be really dark.
The series follows titular character Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), a former superhero who is grappling with PTSD after being controlled by a mysterious man Zebediah Killgrave (David Tennant).
Not being versed in the various iterations of Marvel’s super heroes, I’m not familiar with this character so I watched the trailer with no notion of who Jessica Jones is. That being said, this show looks interesting with lots of dark elements. I’m looking forward to watching it in November.

Jessica was a character created around 2000, for Marvel’s adult line of comics, “Marvel MAX”. Her series was titled “Alias” (not to be confused with the Jennifer Garner spy TV show launched at about the same time with the same title).
To celebrate being able to do so, series creator, Brian Michael Bendis made Jessica’s very first line of dialog the F-Bomb.
It’s about a former superhero who, due to traumatic situations quit, and became a private investigator. Though she never actually appeared in any comic prior to Alias, they retroactively made her an Avenger who was only a member for a week or so before the events that led her to quit.
Looking at the trailers it seems to be hold very true to the tone and plot of the book. I’m expecting that they have her drop an F-bomb to start the TV show as well. I’ll be disappointed if they don’t
In that book Jessica slept around with a couple of long term Marvel characters: Scott Lang (Ant-Man) and Luke Cage (Power Man). The former probably won’t be in the show, though they could still name-drop him as an ex. Luke will be in the show (and have his own TV spinoff down the road)
Eventually Marvel wasn’t comfortable with their characters in a hard R-rated book, and Alias ended. Jennifer and some of her supporting cast continued in a more PG/PG13-level spinoff, before becoming a regular supporting character in New Avengers.
I very much like the idea of a superhero who couldn’t cope.
Now I’m even more interested.
