The Boston Globe:
Hot air balloon festivals are a visual treat for many. Not only do they provide a stunning perspective for their passengers, but their playful shapes, colors, and themes make these floating vessels excellent subject matter for photographers, both on the ground and in the sky. Here is a look at some of the 2015 balloonist gatherings around the globe.
I’ve always told my students, if you ever want guaranteed great photos, find a hot air balloon festival.
If they’ll let you, get inside the balloons when they’re on the ground, as they begin to inflate them. Especially at sunrise. That can make for some really spectacular shots. But always, ALWAYS, ask the pilot if you can join them inside.
I wonder how long until hot air balloons go electric? I mean, of course it’ll be a while, but is anyone even working on it?
Agreed! I attended the Albuquerque Baloon Fiesta this year and knew I had to make sure I bought my new iPhone 6S Plus before hand. The photos were absolutely stunning. But even more stunning were the Live Photos showing the balloon glow in action.
