The dynamic, engaging and interactive Newseum allows visitors to experience the stories of yesterday and today through the eyes of the media while celebrating the freedoms guaranteed to all Americans by the First Amendment.
I really want to go here. I’m a big fan of history and this museum is definitely in my wheel house.
Been there, have the t-shirt. Literally.
Love it. Make sure to carve out a whole day to go through it. There’s lots to see. Also make sure to check the view from the balcony. Great view of DC.
The Newseum is awesome – probably my favorite museum in in DC (although I haven’t been to the Udvar-Hazy Center). Here are a few pictures I took when I visited in 2010 if anyone’s interested. https://www.flickr.com/photos/psfordnu/albums/72157659913201525
Particularly moving to me was something I don’t have a good shot of. In the 12th picture – the twisted remnants of the broadcast antenna of the North Tower – there’s a window in the lower left, which holds the recovered camera of Bill Biggart (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Biggart). He was a photographer that ran towards the burning towers and got some amazing photos, then was killed when the towers collapsed.
It’s a somber place, with remnants of Hurricane Katrina, the Berlin Wall, and the war in Bosnia. But it also has some super cool artifacts, like early news aircraft and satellite replicas, to the actual door that’s lock was taped over in the Watergate break-in. I can’t recommend it enough.
