The truth is still out there

I thought I was over my X-Files obsession, but this trailer grabbed me. I’m in. Though I have to wait ’til January for that first episode.

I want to believe.

  1. in 1992 I was in Vancouver visiting an older couple. They had an interesting house with a lot of character, stained glass windows. During the visit they said, “Some gentlemen stopped by our home today asking if they could use our house for a new TV show.” When I asked them the name of the show, they said…”Something called X Files.” At the time, I had no idea the phenomenon it would become. I loved that show. I hope they can do it justice.

  2. Nonsense? This was one of the most entertaining series I have seen in my life. Carter’s projects (X-Files and Millennium, and Lynch’s Twin Peaks) did away with strictly linear and “treat the viewer like a dumb idiot and explain everything at least thrice” storytelling, they pioneered the idea that if something is fictitious you don’t need to hide it (ample of oddball episodes, many of them better than all sitcoms today) and were decidedly radical in dealing with conspiracy nuts… If Oliver Stone would have seen and understood Smoking Man’s memories, JFK would not have happened.

We have plenty of high production value tv series today, serious attempts at changing the medium for the better we have not. Intelligent office debates initiated by X-Files: uncountable, intelligent debates initiated by True Detective, Homeland, Fargo, Hannibal etc. (as good as they are): zero.

  3. I know the comics resolved the Lone Gunman surviving but I know the Smoking Man was killed by multiple rockets. So looking forward to this show.

  4. I love the Lone Gunmen, but they died as heroes. Undoing that is something I’d expect from mid-level 1970s Marvel Comics.
