NetNewsWire available for Mac and iOS

Back in the day, this was everyone’s RSS reader. Good to see it back and updated.

  1. Sadly, despite several years of development, the release remains a non-starter from the moment you launch and it cannot properly import existing NNW 3 data – not even the complete feed list, much less the entirety of a feed’s existing articles, or their status flags. There is no column sort in top-bottom panel view, nor column edit, nor really much of any view available other than default. The “Show Info” submenu, where all per-feed settings resided… gone entirely, not a knob to be found (well, okay, you can still rename a feed).

It makes the fall of Eudora look downright graceful.

Dunno, it might be fine for somebody just setting up an RSS reader for the first time. Yet even in that case, why chose this newly dumbed-down and inflexible one?

  2. It’s still crap. It still looks the same (crappy), still has the same bugs, still has the same shortcomings, and still has the same problem; the vast majority of power users (the only people who use RSS anymore) have long-since moved on to bigger and better readers/services.
