Good video if you were wondering about the differences between the two devices.

  1. If Samsung has actually created something original here, I wish them all the luck in throwing off the yoke of Android.

If they haven’t… well, you know.

  2. It’s Tizen. I really wish they would switch their phones, but as fate…. or market statistics would have it… even their Android phones are flailing about like a fish out of water.

  3. Perhaps then the question is, whether the experience they’re about to gain from Tizen-run watches gives Samsung enough smarts to make it work well for phones and tablets. And possibly attract developers to make some apps.

  4. Better looking based on what? I think it looks fugly, especially that bezel with notches in it. If you think round makes something look better there are nicer options than this Samsung crap.

  5. I have and love my Apple Watch but this really makes the Apple Watch look old and clumsy. Think history will repeat and like with the bigger smartphones, Apple will have to follow the trend of round screens. I so far haven’t used a watch app yet where a round screen would be a real issue. Yes, a rectangular screen has a larger display area but round just looks a lot better. So it becomes a simple tradeoff between function and style. And style is what typically wins if function doesn’t include show-stoppers.

  6. One has a cool-looking rotary bezel, and a more-familiar shape. The other has a display that seems more efficient for displaying data.

  7. HAHAHAHA the apple watch is WAY better looking than the samsung! Plus more function with the swipes. Obviously you’ve never used an apple watch.

  8. Apple wasn’t following on large screens — they built a large screened device (early iPad prototype) before the iPhone. the iPhone itself was much larger than flip phones and candy bar phones. later, when Samsung had to produce larger, clunkier phones, Apple didn’t. not until they had the material and build quality to keep it slim and trim. they could have released crap sooner had they wanted to.

  9. As someone about to buy an Apple Watch but who is not really a watch wearer I have been hesitant because I don’t love the rectangular form factor. This Samsung device actually makes me want one. Not enough to jump ship, but damn I really like the round face better. Oh well Watch Kit and the integrations I can develop for are just so much more enjoyable in IOS.

  10. C’mon, that’s bullshit and you know it. Apple always claimed the 3’5-4″ screen was the ‘perfect’ size for a phone (remember the finger-add?). They could have build a larger screen phone anytime but just didn’t. It wasn’t until demand for larger screens became obvious till Apple embraced it and came up with the 6/6+. Had nothing todo with materials or build quality. It was all there for Johny to do his magic. Apple is great, I love them. But don’t pretend they are perfect in all their choices. I typically don’t like Samsungs copy-paste-throw-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks behaviour. But to me this thing just looks slick. I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing a round Apple Watch one day.

  11. That’s one opinion. Some people prefer square watches. Go look at a department or jewelry store and you’ll see tons of shapes and sizes. I personally think most of them are fugly, but I’m not in the market for any kind of watch. I stopped wearing one over a decade ago. Good thing my opinion or yours doesn’t dictate the only thing allowed to be sold. 🙂

  12. Not that they were unfair in their comparison with the Apple Watch, but a more useful comparison would be with the Android based watches, given the fact that the Gear S2 is only for Android phones.

  13. The Gear S2 has a nice design. In the wild though, it will blend in and most people will pass it off as a regular watch. I think the apple watch’s square shape and blank screen (off mode) are distinctively different and a lot of people will ask me “hey is that the apple watch?”
