Casey Liss, of the Accidental Tech Podcast, writes about being trolled.
Takes a thick skin to expose yourself to the public. Trolling comes with the territory, but that doesn’t make it easier to take, or right.
Not to be missed, this link to Bastard Coated Bastards with Bastard Filling (about 31 seconds in). Yup, that about covers it.
Those three messages actually all seem to be from the same person. Someone definitely has a beef with Casey in particular and listens to the show enough just to get something on him to gripe about. When it escalates to actual threats, someone might be able to do something.
This troll’s got some problems.
Sadly, sometimes the only way to enjoy a site is to eliminate comments. The Verge is much more readable now that comments have been removed from the general articles.
It’s a reflection of the times we live in.
Yeah I thought it was definitely the same person too. Using the same swear word was an instant giveaway.
“It’s old news that this is how the internet works. It doesn’t have to be that way though. We’re better than this.”
Sadly, yes it does have to be this way and no, we’re not better than this. Trolls will be trolls.
Engaging with the trolls is a mistake though. Now that they know they can elicit a reaction the trolling is almost certain to increase, probably exponentially. They’re playing a game & any interaction only emboldens them more. Sometimes the best move is to just not play.
