Looking forward to this movie. In this post, you’ll meet Michael Stuhlbarg, who played Andy Hertzfeld (not sure why they insisted on putting a ‘t’ at the end of his name.) and hear his thoughts on the structure of the movie and the rehearsal process. Despite the poor reviews for the source material (Isaacson’s biography), I can’t help but think that Sorkin will rise to the occasion.
Interesting that the movie is built in three parts, each dedicated to a rollout of a specific Apple product. I’d have to assume those products would be the iMac, iPod, and iPhone, no? [Edit: Apparently, the sequence is Mac, NeXT, iMac]
The impact of the Mac is more significant than the iMac, by a long shot. But if the movie is entirely about Jobs’s comeback, then yes, the iMac, the iPod and the iPhone. Arguably, the iPad is more significant than the iPod. But the iPod was the beginning of Apple’s ascension into supremacy and has to be featured.
A long time ago, he mentioned it would be about the Macintosh, NeXT Cube and the iMac. So this is pre Apple comeback.
I will have to see it, being a big fan of Sorkin’s work (including The Newsroom and The West Wing’s first four seasons). But from what I’ve heard, the script takes quite a few liberties with reality. But then it can’t help it if he’s basing it on Issacson’s biography. But then I suppose Jobs should share part of the blame for that, seeking someone to write your biography, hoping it to be more hagiography, rather than letting the authors sort themselves out over time, which will happen inevitably.
Yep, with Hertzfeld being a major factor in the story, it’s obviously the Mac to start with. Three acts. Start of the real Apple with the Mac, his years in the wilderness, at NeXT, and then his triumphal return. Which definitely was the iMac for the first five years. The iPod didn’t really take off until the iTunes Store and the Windows version of iTunes.
Isaacson’s bio took liberties on facts, so why not the movie too?
Probably Mac, NeXT, iMac so they can do Steve Jobs II and do the iPod, iPhone, and iPad in that film (joking but only slightly).
