I’m sorry I didn’t respond to your email, my husband coughed to death two years ago

This is a bit of a wild ride. A colleague of ours died about a week ago, and this hit me right in the middle of processing all that.

Don’t read this if you are not in a solid place. But it did help me connect some dots.

  1. Great post. I’m saving the link and a pdf for a close friend that is going through a parallel situation. I’ll wait six months, though, before I offer it.

  2. I read it. Didn’t hit me hard because, maybe, I am in a good place. But, I have to be honest and ask – Regardless of what place you’re in, why is this a good read? It sounds she is going thru a process of letting go. To read it is one thing because, frankly, it is a morbid curiosity kind of read. But to say it is a good read and recommend it? Sorry, we are lowering our standards.

  3. First things first, a fair comment.

But re-read my writeup. Didn’t use the words “good read”. This is one of those posts that strikes you or it doesn’t. It meant something to me because of something I’m processing. Add to that, it was written wryly, with tongue in cheek. That’s the kind of writing that works for some, not for others. All told, this was a bit of the right writing, at the right time. For me.

  4. I come from different angle then most of ready this woman’s heart felt outpouring and tryi g to answer today’s instant or else gemeration. I felt her outrage be ause it came upon me when cancer took my Mom at my age of 15. Kids in my school would would probe me how I felt for at least until my Senior Year but I would just say I wasn’t ready to share and will let them know when I was ready! I never came to terms until I was much older and just tried to move past it but the constant prodding that really got to me after the 30th time asked!

  5. “But it did help me connect some dots”
Why? Why would anything she wrote help anyone? I’ve been through my fair share of tragedy, probably worse than she describes here, I just don’t see how what she wrote is helpful.

  6. You’re right. You didn’t say it was a good read. I am just used to assuming many links you guys provide lead to good reads. My bad.

  7. I’d like to say that “being comfortable being uncomfortable is a very effective way to be a human” resonates with me, but I couldn’t explain how.

More important, perhaps that it’s okay to laugh at absurdity, even if you’re in grief.

  8. I don’t disagree.

I just think that the way her thoughts were expressed are counter to how I think and therefore difficult for me to relate to. Maybe because I am a very positive person and look for the best in every situation? Who knows for sure.

We all deal with difficulties in life in our own ways, and I would never dare to presume to tell someone else how to deal with or express themselves. In this case, I just don’t relate.
