Android’s security armageddon

We’re on day who-the-heck-knows of the Android Stagefright security vulnerability, and there’s really no point keeping track of the days because no one’s going to fix it. The Android ecosystem can’t deal with security, and it won’t change until it’s too late.

This is shocking. (No, it’s really not).

  1. My Android using friends’ reactions to stuff like this is always “Well, just don’t be stupid and install bad apps on your phone and you’ll be fine.” I wonder what their excuse is going to be going forward.

  2. It’ll probably go something like this: “Well, just turn off messaging. And don’t open any image files. And… ummm … Yay Open!”

  3. Charming. What’s their reaction to being reminded that millions of consumers haven’t had training on how not to be “stupid”? Is it okay with them that these vulnerabilities are able to hurt as many people as they do?

  4. I learned a long time ago not to argue with Android users. They can justify absolutely anything. It is mind blowing to say the least.

  5. Here’s a question I’ve had for the last few years: If android is so insecure—and it seems like it is—then why haven’t we had this malware Armageddon yet? Why wasn’t it 2 years ago? Something’s not adding up. I’m open to opinions here.
