The Sweet Setup:
In the read-it-later space, the two dominant players have long been Instapaper and Pocket. Each app has its own strengths and weaknesses, and Pocket has some features that could make it the ideal app for some use cases, but Instapaper is our favorite app for actually reading the best writing on the web … later.
I was an original user of Instapaper but switched to Pocket (when it was still named Read It Later). After reading this article, I’m going to at least give Instapaper another shot.
I never stopped using Instapaper, but since I no longer commute daily, the waiting-to-be-read collection has grown considerably.
I still use Readability. I especially like what they did with readlists.com, where it lets you compile multiple pages into “chapters” to read them all later like a book. You can even download the end result as an epub or Kindle book.
My use is pretty much in line with the linked article… everything that is text only, or with irrelevant images / photos goes to Instapaper, the rest goes to Pocket… Instapaper’s tendency to completely erase images in some (quite a few) cases is unfortunate, as it definitely provides the better app and reading experience.
I only use Safari Saving List.
