Jeff Williams: “Response to Apple Watch has surpassed our expectations in every way”

From Apple’s press release, announcing the projected Apple Watch arrival in Italy, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan beginning Friday, June 26:

“The response to Apple Watch has surpassed our expectations in every way, and we are thrilled to bring it to more customers around the world,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s senior vice president of Operations. “We’re also making great progress with the backlog of Apple Watch orders, and we thank our customers for their patience. All orders placed through May, with the sole exception of Apple Watch 42 mm Space Black Stainless Steel with Space Black Link Bracelet, will ship to customers within two weeks. At that time, we’ll also begin selling some models in our Apple Retail Stores.”

The logjam is loosening.

  1. Just got mine (a surprise preset from my wife) a couple days ago. I love it. I really didn’t think I would. I wasn’t going to get one until 2nd or 3rd gen (not normal for me – I’m a pretty early adopter).
Dealing with text messages is fantastic. The auto replies are context sensitive and usually what I want, and I constantly use the dictation feature on my phone (I suck at typing on anything), works just as well on the watch. Everything is super smooth, it’s smaller and more comfortable than I thought it’d be (been too busy to see one at a store)… I could keep going, but I’ll stop. Apple once again did it right.

  2. Ordered mine just over a week after the pre-order launch date. Initial shipping estimate was June. Got it May 21st. Pleasant surprise.

  3. I did sort of the opposite. I tried one in store with no real intention of buying one. Maybe getting the cheapest one in six months. And, of course, the guy helping me with the try on can’t sell me one.

Each band I tried was incredibly comfortable. including the “cheap” sport band. And I walked away determined to buy one as quickly as possible — and probably the stainless steel case.

  4. Love mine! The biggest hurdle for me is getting used to wearing something on my wrist, even though it’s the most comfortable thing I’ve ever worn on my wrist.

  5. well, the guy helping you try on the AW could have sold you one afterward — via apple.com or your phone. we ordered an additional one immediately after trying it on in the store. im wearing it now.

  6. yeah agreed — having stopped wearing watches in high school or earlier, it takes a little getting used to. wrist claustrophobia..
