Wow!
That’s not including other media subscriptions for music or news.
I don’t currently subscribe to Showtime or HBO, but I’m considering it. Seeing how it’s priced compared to some of the others, HBO is just way too expensive. Outside of Game of Thrones, I’m not sure HBO content is that much better than Netflix.
Yup – all those “little” charges add up pretty quickly.
Wow are you joking!!? Even the worst HBO program is better than Netflixes best.
Perhaps the price will drop to 99 cents per as with most apps. Naw…
Lol. I have been telling people this for years. The reason cable prices make almost no sense is bundling, which is an (perhaps not so simple) Econ 101 concept. If your plan is to legitimately watch shows (ie zero torrents or streams), you will not save money unless you are watching only a show or two a week. If you cord-cut, but still have an internet plan you are not saving very much money once you add back all the a la cart costs of the programming you want to watch.
These kind of services are mostly for people who only want OTA channels plus HBO or Showtime. Before April there was no other way to get HBO without a cable subscription.
It’s not always about saving a lot of money. The cost of my internet, Netflix, HBO Now, Showtime, and Amazon Prime will be just under half of what it would cost me to have a cable subscription with a ton of channels I don’t ever watch or programs I’m going to miss because they only come on at a certain time. (Much easier to wait until they hit Netflix or Prime and watch them all at leisure. Cable systems’ on demand services are difficult to use or don’t carry many shows.)
Could I end up spending way more than the cable subscription? Perhaps. And when I get to that bridge, I’ll consider crossing it. Until then, don’t put me down for wanting to only pay for a few things that I actually have the time to watch.
Also, my cable system charges extra for HD channels, and that includes the local networks. Why pay for something I can get HD over an antenna? That, to me, is ridiculous.
