Before you go cancelling your order for Apple’s first smartwatch, it’s important to grasp the facts.
But “Apple Watch Defective!” is such a sexier headline. By the way, it’s a good rule of thumb that, when the headline includes something bad about an Apple product, wait 24 hours before commenting. Invariably, the facts come out and it’s not nearly as bad as the Chicken Littles would have you think.
They are called “stock buying opportunities”
According to Gruber and other sources, they did ship a small bunch of defective ones. #TapticGate
Let’s see how much I get slammed for this.
We have no way to know if they were defective because they used parts from that Chinese supplier, or whether they just plain failed, as sometimes happens even with parts that aren’t defective across the board. Gruber points this out himself.
Does that matter?
It matters since Apple is claiming that no watches with the defective parts were shipped. If that’s not true, then the people who have watches now (e.g. me) would potentially have to worry more about their taptic engines failing.
Gruber didn’t say that. He said his review unit was defective, and that a reader told him the same. That is not the same as saying they “did ship a small bunch”. It could be simple chance and he received a bum unit. No one knows.
