Oh Samsung

Some people might not care. Like painting the back of the fence or finishing the underside of the cabinet, it’s a detail that only people who take tremendous pride in craft really care about. And, of course, people who look for just exactly that kind of quality.

Quality matters. Lining up ports matter. The details matter.

  1. Is that why the new MacBook only has one port…Apple doesn’t care to bother with lining up ports anymore?

  2. I only see the sticker as a problem.

Because the other ports don’t need to share a centerline; that’s an aesthetic preference, not strictly “pride in craftsmanship”.

I’d rather have 1mm thinner than thicker Just To Fit Centerline Alignment In.

(And if e.g. they find that plugging in a phone lying on a table works better with the connector up a millimeter from optical center?

    Function beats form.

Yes, I’m sure Samsung is more “doesn’t care” than “obsessive about UX”.

But I’m equally sure pride in craftsmanship is not the same as obsession over centerline alignment of disparate ports.)

  3. If function beats form, then why would you care about the sticker? Unlike a port, it has no impact on the phones’s functionality.
