CBC News:
Canadians are a relatively happy bunch — the fifth happiest in the world, according to new data from the 2015 World Happiness Report released Thursday.
The report issues a score on a scale of zero to 10 based on Gallup World Poll data collected from people in more than 150 countries between 2012 and 2014.
Researchers then analyze the “life evaluation” data to rank countries, ostensibly providing a comparative overview of people’s “subjective well-being” in each.
For all of our myriad problems and issues, Canada is still a great country. Read the story for the list of the top five and where the US placed in the report – both very interesting.
The people in the comments section must use a scale of zero to 1
Apparently, there’s a direct correlation between snowy and cold winters and happiness.
Switzerland (7.587)
Iceland (7.561)
Denmark (7.527)
Norway (7.522)
Canada (7.427)
I noticed that too. I wonder if there actually is a correlation?
Not sure. I hope not as the older I get, the less I ‘appreciate’ winter. Although, we had an easy ride of winter here in Calgary.
The other things these countries have in common is a relatively small population and fairly high income per person.
They also generate decent hockey players.
That’s just the CBC audience. 🙂
To be fair, only the Canadians do. 🙂
I’ll be that’s a bigger contributing factor than them all being thought of as “cold” countries. 🙂
BTW Shawn where are you hanging your hat these days? Last time we spoke was at MWSF at your wedding. I can’t remember the venue but it was a fun party/wedding.
After living in several places in the US, I’m now in Chilliwack, BC, Canada.
Venue was the Great American Music Hall in SF. The party lasted about as long as the marriage. 🙂
The “cold” accounts for the small population and the small population accounts for the income?
Frightened Turtle Syndrome
If Mexican residents are happier than US residents why are so many people trying to illegally immigrate? Strange.
The Mexico “Tourist Zone” and Industrial worker “farming” along the Mexico / USA border has a lot to do with illegal immigrants. Spend some time travelling inside Mexico and you find very proud happy people everywhere you go.
Why is there no post mentioning your Gofundme site on here? Congrats on reaching the total, the power of Gruber!
Thanks Dipesh. I didn’t think it was appropriate to use The Loop as a venue to get the word out. And yeah – the DF Army came through big time! 🙂
Fair point. I have only been to tourist areas, Chichen Itza, Cancun, Isla Mujeres and so on.
But I wasn’t really thinking abut my personal experience but the fact that about 28% of immigrants do come from Mexico. Of course Mexico bordering the US has a lot to do with that too. The statistic just struck me as odd.
Great. Glad to hear it helped.
Great American Music Hall in little Saigon. Right.
At least it was a long party. 😉
Oh Chilliwack, usually a brunch stop on the way back to Calgary.
BTW, you may not remember, but this is Curtis from MyMacDealer back in the day.
Go Habs.
Go Flames.
Hey Curtis! I hope you are well!
As good as expected for an old guy. Shut down MyMacDealer a little over two years ago. At a certain point, it became simply untenable running an 8-10 point business and still pay the bills, staff, suppliers et cetera. We had a great run for 17 years though. No regrets. Now I’m a bum.
As long as you’re a happy bum!
