Duluth Trading Co. apologizes to Don Henley

Don Henley will not take it easy when there’s a product being sold that references both his name and career with The Eagles, and now everyone knows: After filing a lawsuit against a Wisconsin clothing company that emailed an ad telling customers to “don a henley and take it easy” last October, the two sides have settled the case, with the company issuing an apology to both Henley and his fans for trying to be too clever.

I really like Duluth Trading Co. and their ads, but they did go too far this time.

  1. Don Henley didn’t write the song. Don Henley has a perfect right to protect his name and brand from unauthorized use.

  2. IIRC, “Take it Easy” is an Eagles song, though I do remember DH singing it – or was that Glenn Fry – or all or most of them – I mean they were not a bad group (though a bit studio driven).

  3. I think it’s pretty funny as a pun.

But they should have gotten permission first.

(I’d be shocked if “Don” before the style of the shirt sold so much as a single additional shirt…)

  4. “Don’t let him get back together with Glenn Frey!” and “All I wanted was a Pepsi” are my go to phrases when I feel a need to interject something in a conversation but have nothing relevant to say.
