The OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Supplemental Update fixes a video driver issue that may prevent your Mac from starting up when running certain apps that capture video.
My hope is that this somehow fixes a problem I’ve been having with Safari ever since I installed the 10.10.3 update. Probably a stretch, but I can dream, can’t I?
I’d rather Apple to fix the large JPG file for Preview app. The worst bug to date since Leopard “Welcome screen” loop.
My first kernel panic with 10.10 (I think) came after installing this Supplemental Update. It’s probably just a coincidence, of course.
I haven’t heard of this bug. I just tried a few large jpegs. One at 17MB and one at 15 MB, no panics. I wonder what the conditions are? I have not downloaded the new update yet either.

After looking into this a bit more, apparently some people are experiencing kernel panics when opening large jpegs in preview. I opened more jpegs after posting this, larger even than what other people were suggesting caused the panics and had no problems. It’ll probably turn out to be some third party thing again.
I hope so. Your post actually gave me pause. I’ll wait a while and see what shakes out. It’s been years since I’ve had a panic. A coworker did and she had no idea what was happening. Luckily it did not happen again. Kernel panics, as you no doubt know, are tough to isolate.
I think that’s wise. To be honest, the vagueness of Apple’s wording on what this update does bothers me. Like why would I be booting while doing video capture?
It would help if they mentioned which video applications too. It’s probably a kernel extension conflict. I’ve never liked the way Apple handles updates, they are often too vague in there description of what the update is specifically for. Being secretive is not at all what you want when applying an update.
Any more panics? I have not seen too many problems with the update
No, was just that one. Though i’ve seen a few video glitches. But then again, maybe my MacBook Air is picking this week to fail. 😛
