The Commission is concerned that Apple would use it size, influence and relationships to get music labels to abandon rivals such as Spotify, which rely on licensing with music companies for their catalogue, the FT said.
I don’t understand why regulators are so concerned about Apple, when they are so far behind in the streaming race.
Can we say, “iBooks”?
Clearly, Apple’s the monopoly threat. /s
Amazon EBOOKS all over again. Some day we can invents books… or not. Does it strike anyone as odd that governments govern poorly or not at all?
Regulators can and should investigate things all the time. That doesn’t mean that Apple is guilty or even plans it, it just means EU regulators are concerned and are looking into it. This is their job. If anything if they find nothing that’s a good thing and good for Apple. Companies are not like individuals, because on average they do not act for the public good at all times. They need to be overseen to make sure everything is okay to establish trust. Trust, but verify.
To be honest, the books thing may have given Apple a undeserved reputation and that was an unjust verdict, but that doesn’t mean regulators shouldn’t look.
Maybe they are waiting to drink, yet I’m sure they (da EU gub mint) are ready to drowned
Its not that they “look” is that some one or entity gets a “fair trial” and then a “fair hanging” in the court of public opinion – even if they are later exonerated…. because the KBG or worse is in charge… the Check mafia!
Microsoft was initially very far behind in the browser game, but they used their “size, influence and relationships” to kill Netscape. It doesn’t matter that Apple is not currently a big player in the streaming race, the regulators want to make sure Apple doesn’t abuse the power it has because of it’s power in other areas (e.g. iTunes) to kill Spotify.
“I don’t understand why regulators are so concerned about Apple, when they are so far behind in the streaming race.”
For the same reason why Willie Sutton robbed banks, “Because that’s where the money is.”
