The mistake with Google Glass

Google was wrong to let expectations about its Glass wearable gadget get overheated, the head of the Google X research lab said on Tuesday.

Google made a lot of mistakes with Glass. However, don’t forget that Tony Fadell, the man who made the iPod and founded Nest after leaving Apple, is now in charge of Google Glass.

  1. Over-hype was NOT the problem with Google Glass!

It was simply a shitty product, with poor battery life and a screen that was easily swamped in direct sunlight, and when it did work well it was only effective at being a creep’s best friend. Aside from that it was best at only being a nerd status symbol, saying “I have $1,500 to blow on a toy, no social skills, and I wish I was an android like Mr. Data on Star Trek. Hey, look at me, I’m ‘fully functional!'”

  2. Technological limitations could have been overcome over time, because they usually are.

The “product” failed because it was released before it was a genuine product. I’m fairly certain there were mroe than a few potential vertical developers who were begging to work with Google for a specific end-use.

If we hear anything more from Fadell about this, it’ll be because he will have implemented an actual non-creep use for the thing.

  3. Everything was the problem with Google Glass. It may yet have a market in applications where one may need hands free and certain technical information – such as say a doctor while operating, a mechanic while fixing or a solider while fighting/in a war zone …

such a product could easily be 5 years away – maybe more – depending on IF they get the interface correct – or if the interface is more of a problem.

    So you are half right!

  4. Yes, Google is not nearly as smart at it (or many people there in) think they are. I mean look at Steve Ballmer – he must be the dumbest, smartest (idiot savant?), richest monkey boy Texan ever!
