Thousands have signed up for Apple’s ResearchKit

Bloomberg:

Stanford University researchers were stunned when they awoke Tuesday to find that 11,000 people had signed up for a cardiovascular study using Apple Inc.’s ResearchKit, less than 24 hours after the iPhone tool was introduced.

“To get 10,000 people enrolled in a medical study normally, it would take a year and 50 medical centers around the country,” said Alan Yeung, medical director of Stanford Cardiovascular Health. “That’s the power of the phone.”

As the article points out, there are some concerns regarding the people who would get involved but, overall, the research community seems very excited about the present and future possibilities.

  1. They said during the presentation that they were concerned about the people that were getting involved when they were paying people to get involved. Which way do they want it?

  2. I can imagine researchers being very happy about the prospect of such a roadblock to their work being smoothed over like this.

  3. Generally these studies are trying to find patterns
on symptoms caused by the immune system.
Diseases themselves are lifestyle based on decades of harm.
    even generational.

China used so much pesticide in their country sides that killed
all their bees. So they have the highest rate of Parkinson’s.

Medical profession has no understanding of fixing the immune
system. So they keep harping on inflammation, pain, etc
which are symptoms of not the disease but immune system either
doing its job or going haywire.

But since Apple didn’t see the irony of showing Coke Machine
    followed by this presentation.

It is par for the course.
