“iOS apps already help millions of customers track and improve their health. With hundreds of millions of iPhones in use around the world, we saw an opportunity for Apple to have an even greater impact by empowering people to participate in and contribute to medical research,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s senior vice president of Operations. “ResearchKit gives the scientific community access to a diverse, global population and more ways to collect data than ever before.”
I didn’t see this one coming, but I’m really glad Tim and company decided to do it.
This was a great move by Apple. Money and greed drives the Apple gold watch. Kindness and generosity drives ResearchKit. SJ would be proud.
I didn’t see it coming either, but in retrospect it makes a lot of sense. Nobody’s really going to trust it’s secure if there’s no source available[*], and this nicely heads off a whole bunch of possible objections.
[*]-Not that this guarantees security, but being able to inspect the code will be helpful.
While watching the ResearchKit stuff, I had the impression that long term this will be much bigger news than Apple Watch pricing. But to get asses in those chairs, they pretty much had to do them in the same event.
Humans are the best and worst thing.
ResearchKit is such an amazing announcement which is made even better by the fact that it will be open source.
I’m hoping that HealthKit will be made open source as well.
By far the best announcement this week. #props
