Samsung ditched almost all of its hardware differentiation to go all in on iPhone 6-style design — though layering in, iPhone 4-like, with glass on both sides.
Does this company have no shame? Can they not come up with anything on their own? Pathetic.
Same I hate that Samsung SSD and Samsung LCD in my MacBook that they came up with all by themselves just pisses me off too.
Wow Jim, I expected a little more from you. You went pretty easy on the subject. LOL
GERRY……
“Can they not come up with anything on their own?”
No, No, No – They can’t — Surprised you asked 🙂
The planetary knockoff king.
Since the only real thing this ripped off really is the aluminum frame design, I wonder if you were critical of Apple when their iPhone 6 back design was similar to an HTC One with their antenna lines.
Now I wonder what you think of Xiaomi.
Worse than no shame. They have no honor.
Well done trying to change the subject, troll. This is about design, features, and marketing of Samsung’s latest phones, not about who makes what internal component in your Macbook. What pathetic redirection.
“Can they not come up with anything on their own?”
Yes, but when they do it’s terrible and/or useless.
E.g. TouchWiz, Tizen, ad nauseam.
Now I wonder what Samsung thinks of Xiaomi.
Crushing Samsung in China at the low end.
While Apple owns the high end.
And pretty soon they won’t have profits either.
At least not in the smartphone market.
LOL…u gonna grow them beard grey!
Samsung is only good at one thing….they are good in “copy-ing”! The company was built that way!
The overall look is a shameless facsimile of iPhone 6. But if you call them out for copying because of glass, SD and battery, then you’d have to call Apple out for copying because of the larger sizes.
You do understand Carl, that these two items were not designed/invented/engineered solely by Samsung, right? So they manufacture, but invent, not so much. So your comment about, all by themselves is a bit disingenuous.
Apple had made larger sizes in their labs. They really toyed with it during the 4, but it was still too bulky. Size is not a feature, it’s a format.
Well considering Apple had added a variety of sizes to the desktop and notebook lineups long before Samsung was even a glint in their eye, I’d say the concept of “larger screen” is not particularly unique to Samsung. Apple did have the first 17″ notebook in the world in 2003, so I really doubt the concept of making bigger screens was particularly foreign.
Explain how HTC pioneered the “antenna lines”? Apple pioneered the entire concept of an integrated antenna built into the devices body, using black antenna lines as insulators for the different antenna sections. And they were called every name in the book for doing so. Remember antenna-gate?
HTC copied Apple’s design, and at least added their own little touch to it. But don’t get things twisted.
All I saw previously was the bottom (plug, speaker, headphone jack) and thought “meh, whatever” but the following reallly annoy me:
– trim around the home button
– fingerprint scanning app (https://twitter.com/gruber/status/572837500080791552)
These are the things that bother me. The physical hardware is different, sans the bottom and ring on home, but come on w/ the software! That’s free reign and wide open to any UI ever considered.
They almost had me interested, namely ’cause of the camera (huge camera junky and the Nexus 6 camera isn’t as fast as I’d like), and I can look over some copying but like Rene Ritchie said on MacBreak “copy forward.” Basically don’t just copy but copy and improve (the Apple way; no flame).

🙂
“- trim around the home button”
They have to do that to short the connection to turn on the scanner. Fairly certain Apple has a patent on that though.
Samsung are in all out panic mode. They have had to return to all out copying Apple as that was all that brought them any significant success. They just add litigation to the cost of doing business, and you know that they know they can spin it out for years and by the time it comes to court the device will be irrelevant.
Yeah but I find it hard pressed to believe they couldn’t have found another way to do it. Maybe the contact is in the middle of the button, the whole button, or something else. It’s just too close to me.
I wouldn’t say all out copying but yeah…not pleased with, what has become, their nature.
Well the last couple of years have proven that they can’t sell high-end product in the quantities they need to if they don’t copy Apple. Xiaomi’s fast rise also appears to prove the same point, hence the return to form by Samsung.
“turning a card sideways isn’t groundbreaking.”
You should ask Wizards of the Coast about that.
They might very well have the in-house talent to find their own way to to anything, but they’re institutionally limited by their top-down management.
