Medium:
(Apple is) in a lot of ways the story of a technology company hanging around, making interesting things, and waiting for the world to actually need what they wanted to build.
But also something to remember: narratives are bullshit. It’s the people who show up and build and keep going who ultimately write the stories that last.
Many don’t remember or know just how bad off Apple was in those days. It’s path has got to be considered the most remarkable story in the history of business.
I just hope Apple’s by-laws include a strict ban on all Ivy League Douchebags from their executive ranks. They don’t belong in the cutting-edge, forward-thinking, ecologically-responsible and world-changing company Apple has become since those dark days. But as for middle management, sure, they could be of some use there.
Apple’s market cap is twice that of Exxon who is in second place. The last time that happened was 30 years when IBM was huge, and Exxon was in second place.

Oh I remember.
Funny thing is I never thought they would go out of business or sell to Sun or anything crazy like that. I just knew they would persevere. The first Apple computer I used was the IIe using Apple DOS 3.3. I hated it. But then a few years later I used a IICX with System 6, which I liked. By the time I was using the IIci, which I loved, I was hooked. I tried Windows 3.3 with the File Manager and it just seemed clunky. Not till they copied Apple with Windows 95 did they start to even get close. They still have not.
When Steve came back I knew they would do well. I wish I had the money at the time to buy Apple stock.. yeah, I better let that one go. : D
In any case, it’s been a long road but a fun ride. Here is hoping to a bright future ahead.
Here’s hoping Apple has some kind of interest in helping undo the damage that companies like Exxon have done.
Ditto.
With the clean energy from the solar farms, they’ve probably done more than Exxon ever has already.
Well put Mr Moeskido.
I think you’re onto something. Yes, I think Apple is thinking “cars”, but I also think Apple is really tackling batteries and clean power production.
