How to make your iPhone dimmer than its dimmest setting

Want to read at night but find the dimmest brightness setting too bright for you (or for your partner)? Apparently there’s a way to dim your iOS device even dimmer that its traditional brightness settings allow, using a little trick from the Accessibility Settings. Nice.

  1. Or… just triple click on home button to invert colors (you’ll have to enable it in Accessibly option). So the white pages on browser is now black and super easier to read then I can lower the brightness as well if I want to. That’s what I do for each night so it doesn’t hurt my eyes. A lot of people like that approach. Hope this helps!

  2. I’ve mapped this dimming option to triple-clicking the home button in the accessibility settings.

Its nice when you are driving at night with your phone mounted on the dash as your music player and a piece of album art pops up with a bright white background. Just a quick triple-click and the iPhone dims the screen so it is no longer blindingly distracting.

  3. Yep. I to have used invert, but I’m going to try this again (apparently I’ve used this trick before and just don’t remember, since my zoom settings were already set this way).

  4. Another example of the broken design of iOS 8.

People who traditionally have not needed the Accessibility settings are in there all the time now. And people who have traditionally needed the Accessibility settings are complaining of giant bugs in those settings that never get fixed.

  5. Setting a triple-click function on the home button has the side effect of slowing the appearance of the app switcher when you double-click (since the OS is waiting a bit to see if you click a third time).
