Net neutrality: no on reclassification, yes on adding content & app providers

BlackBerry:

neutrality must be mandated at the application and content layer if we truly want a free, open and non-discriminatory internet. All wireless broadband customers must have the ability to access any lawful applications and content they choose, and applications/content providers must be prohibited from discriminating based on the customer’s mobile operating system.

What BlackBerry’s CEO is talking about is forcing companies like Apple to make their software available on BlackBerry’s devices and OS.

The CEO of BlackBerry has lost his mind.

  1. This dude is crazy. Perhaps if they stopped their ship from sinking and made their devices and OS relevant again, the app developers would stop ignoring them. Expecting the government to legislate them back to relevance is one of the stupidest things I’ve heard. This week at least…

  2. “access any lawful applications and content”

And who determines what is lawful? That’s what bugs me about all this talk of net neutrality.

  3. I’m sorry Ford, you must build the frame of the Mustang so that I can rip the body off a Chevy Camaro and drop it on the Mustang Frame… Seamlessly.

  4. Sad thing about this is that my first thought was, “Blackberry is still in business?” I don’t know when the last time I saw someone actually using a Blackberry device was.

  5. I’ve been spammed by iMessage before, but it’s pretty rare.

Imagine how much more spam there’d be if Apple actually permitted third parties to integrate with it.

  6. Personally I’d like Porsche to drop one of their engines into my Toyota, if they don’t mind.

All in the interests of road neutrality.
