It’s definitely “crapware” and the company’s tactics are sleazy. As Peter says, avoid and warn others.
I’d posit that if your affiliate marketing strategy is attracting lying douchebags and scum, then you’re the problem as much as they are.
That’s certainly what I thought when I saw the “it’s our affiliate program” defense… combined with such behavior continuing to this day, the last time I looked at that trainwreck.
(If it happened once and they made it stop, I’d believe them.)

I have many clients come in with this installed. I will say that a few years ago this was a legit piece of software. It may still be in some small part, but its dam intrusive and anytime I have found this I have also found Adware and browser plugins. My advice as well is to keep away.
My downstairs neighbor is a very nice young woman who I’ve told to avoid MacKeeper at least twice.
She’s probably clicking “Okay” on their pop-under right now.

Semi legit. It wasn’t adware infested but it was rather pointless. Then someone got the idea to drop some bombs in copies and post them on download sites
