Academy Award nomination or not, it’s a good, fun movie.

The LEGO Movie is the BEST animation movie of 2014. Period.
This is why the Academy is bullshit and why I’d rather watch the Independent Spirit awards the night before.
The LEGO movie was good fun, and I am a huge fan of Phil Lord and Chris Miller. However, have a good long look at the other nominations in the animation category and realize that as fun as the LEGO movie is, films like Box Trolls, The Tale of Princess Kaguya and Song of the Sea transcend fun and are artistic marvels. Furthermore some films, such as Box Trolls and How to Train your Dragon 2 contain some of the best messages for children of any film from 2014. While enjoyable, the LEGO movie simply does not reach the same heights.
