Both systems suffered long outages over Christmas after a major distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack. A hacking group calling itself Lizard Squad, which had attacked the two networks earlier last year, claimed responsibility.
I wonder what they’ll do with him? Will Microsoft and Sony get a say in the matter? This will be interesting.
But he did it for the LULZ. Surely that doesn’t deserve jail or anything, right? /sarcasm
Five years imprisonment for every time he bragged about it publicly.
Well, good. But it’s deeply disturbing the degree to which the Internet is built upon hopes and wishes.
That might be a bit extreme, since he’s bragged about it hund…
…oh, I see what you’re doing. Good idea. Carry on, then.
Like you said, hopes and wishes.
I would assume the victims – Microsoft, Sony and most importantly, the users of said systems would be able to potentially get some monetary satisfaction – though probably small compared to the “damage” done – with more penalties for bragging in public!
One hopes and wishes that when I do business (pay money) to a particular site for goods, services, etc – that those sites or entities have the balls to run it responsible. Also, see NSA, which I think all Americas (or most) give lots of Federal tax money so they can run their illegal operations…. but I am getting off topic.
Why would Microsoft and Sony get a say in the matter? If he broke laws, the authorities that arrested him (or any that he’s extradited to) will prosecute him under those laws…. it’s not for Microsoft or Sony to decide.
Looks like he’s been exonerated already: Wrong kid.
As much as I’d love to see these guys ruined, it’s not worth ruining the wrong people.

because damages were done, though that could be a separate suit. Jail time, sentencing would be up to the prosecutor – or however they do this in Britain (or maybe he the perp is tried in several jurisdictions).
OK – sort of off topic, yet it would seem Verizon is in violation if its own polices … https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2015/01/verizon-and-turn-break-browser-privacy-protections
so arrest Verizon and the NSA!!!
