Google gets into the domain business

Want to register a domain name? Now you have one more option. Google Domains is now open for business. The site seems reasonably well designed with a one stop shopping approach, offering a dashboard for managing all your domains and settings, a blogger front end, interfaces to website building shops Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly and Wix, website themes, and dynamic DNS.

I particularly like the front and center placement of a WHOIS button to the right of each result. There seems to be a trend to hide the WHOIS interface, use the search for WHOIS data as clickbait.

  1. The problem with Google being in the “business of everything” is that one may find themselves locked into to something they no longer like or even want … so they are into search – BFD, they are in to mobile … which I will avoid, unless its a “secure” non Google Android … and they will be into transportation, medical and Youtube (which I do frequent) and everything else …. so we have a “mono culture” of Google, Apple (does Apple survive), Facebook (they seem to be avoiding the pitfalls of MySpace) and Amazon (I think Amazon is the new HBO/Hollywood/Studio) and (maybe?) Neflix.

Maybe this is why Google cars not about Net Neutrality? Maybe Google is the NWO? Maybe Google is the NSA, yet the NSA still gets billions of tax payer money – that is more than wasted. I say divert all funds to NASA and we can leave this rock for a better one! (and maybe even give Earth sustainable energy and a sustainable society while we are at it).

The domain business is probably getting bigger since I think the TLD are now – almost whatever you want – which is dumb, but so is IPv6 (no NAT, you now have two 64bit MAC#s – yuck), though IPv6 is infinitely smarter than random TLD as now they are nearly meaningless. But I guess chaos is good for business – if they can figure out how to charge a random small business for 4, 8, 16 or 32 domain registrations – per year. Its like they want to make full time jobs out of this junk. Ammiright??

whoops, longer post than I realized, maybe I should put down the coffee!

  2. What the hell, Google? You can only use this service if you have a US billing address. Funny – they make it easy enough to pay for Adwords from anywhere in the world.
