I’d want to hear the same thing done with some modern rock before I declare it especially bad with country pop. But I already hate modern country pop, so… 🙂
The current dumbing down of talent is now hitting country. No music is safe now from autotune crap, even rock music is falling to it.
Also: I think I like the combined song better than the individual songs. Ha!
Its all pop, not just country.
This stuff today doesn’t even compare to the country music I grew up with. These guys are simply not in the same league as Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Patsy Cline, Roy Clark and Chet Atkins (great guitarists), Tammy Wynette, and all the others the stake a claim to true country music. These folks today are making it on their looks only. This is what happened when big recording companies took over Nashville.
90% of music today is crap. But so was 90% of music at any point in time. Looking back it always seems better because we get to (subconsciously) cherry-pick the good and compress time. The music we “grew up with” is 20 years long. Of course there were some great ones but not nearly as many as the now forgotten ones.

Today’s country is just pop with a twang. And it really sucks compared to the days of Bob Wills and others. I’m a jazz blues guy and would much rather hear the old stuff.
It’s a formula that makes money, and that’s all that matters, sadly. It’s the musical equivalent of Taken, Die Hard movies after the first one, most sit-coms, police dramas, and anything starring Jason Statham. It’s bubble-gum pop music, movies and TV for the masses who don’t want to think too deeply about their entertainment.
Low-Information Entertainment.
We pick our leaders the same way.
The good stuff is still out there, you just need to hunt it down.
My wife, a die-hard long-time country fan, hates the new country pop. She got me interested in country 25 years ago, and I still love the old stuff and cannot stand to be in hearing range of the new. Give me George Jones any day, any day, compared to the new country pop. We have all the oldies, even bluegrass sounding ones that my wife is not that much in love with, but which she will take over the new stuff any day. If you need CDs of the older (and better) music, go to Amazon, online sales or just stop by a Barnes and Noble and look in the $4.99 rack and get good old music, or new music by musicians who aren’t cranking our the same soundalike pop. Full disclosure: I work at a Barnes and Noble. Or go to yard sales, where we have laid our mitts on some really great music, and not just Grand Old Opry, either. Thanks so much for this example of crap.
I think Garth Brooks is where it really started breaking down. He was initially okay, but the people who tried to follow his style weren’t.
Okay, this is not my favorite form of music. But, I would rather listen to this for 8 hours. Than 5 minutes of that RAP CRAP. Where the “F word” is the focal point of the music. Then of course, they call every woman in the world all the filthy names they can think of. The best part of RAP, is when you are lucky enough to get stuck in your car and the car next to you is blasting this inspirational music. They feel it is only fair that they share it with you. Their car is rocking to the beat and your car is now rocking to the beat. All you can do is pray that the light will change. I live in Los Angeles. This means our car windows are open a lot. I have never encounter someone playing Country Music. That felt the need to blast their music so loud that I had to hear it in my car. No, Country Music is not my favorite by far. Next time you feel the need to insult Country Music, put on a RAP station and enjoy.
