Apple boosts prices in App Store for Canadians due to plummeting loonie

Vancouver Sun:

Get your 99 cent apps while you can, iPhone and iPad users.

Apple will soon hike the prices in its App Store for Canadian customers, according to an email sent to software developers.

The email, sent out on Wednesday, said the unspecified price increase in Canada, Norway and European Union countries would take effect within 36 hours.

Apple said foreign exchange rates were triggering the increase in Canada.

I wonder how it’s going to affect sales? The 99 cent price point is generally thought of as a no brainer but even a small increase in the price sensitive App Store can significantly lower sales.

  1. “plummeting loonie”

Thanks to our one trick pony PM and his penchant for the oil patch. He’s pissed away a healthy surplus. put us into deficit even before the onset of the 2008 recession, has already spent the small projected surplus for 2015 that we now know will probably be another deficit, and has consistently ‘starved the beast” to use the metaphor of the ideologues of his ilk. Good fiscal managers my ass!

There’s no plan B. What a sorry state of affairs.

  2. I reward the app creators for their creativity hence I bought their apps and the price point doesn’t matter to me.

  3. UK prices have started changing. Approx 31% price increase across the board. This is going to hurt app sales.

  4. “plummeting loonie” or “rocketing dollar?”
I don’t follow politics much but I heard the other day it was more the escalating US dollar as all currencies are dropping compared to it.

  5. Shaw King we all know 99 cents is a psychological limit, yet what insight are you offering here?

When it comes and people see their sales we’ll know. It’s not like Apple can just keep selling a loss, there’s no choice or insight to be had here.
