Wired:
Pre-game presentations have long been excuses to trot out special effects. Indoor pyrotechnics, giant inflatable helmets, live wild animals running the field, and bone-rattling sound systems have been around for years.
Turning a hockey rink into a lake of fire? That’s new.
The tech behind all of this is pretty cool but it seems like pointless eye candy to me.
But it keeps companies like mine in business 🙂 That’s always a good reason to spend obscene amounts of money for 3 minutes of entertainment…
If this replaces sitting in the arena staring at empty ice I suppose I’m in favour of it, but that’s about it.
I guess you could say the same about a lot of things from fireworks to television.
