Glassdoor ranks Apple 22nd on best places to work, calls Apple “paradise of jobs”

Glassdoor released their seventh annual Employee’s Choice awards, honoring the best places to work in America. Apple is number 22 in the large company (1000+ employees) list. Google is #1.

The awards are crowdsourced, culled from input from full time employees of each company. If you are going to build a list of best places to work, this seems as good a way as any, given the subjective nature of the award.

At the very least, seems like there’s valuable feedback here for employers.

  1. This headline is a misleading. A single review by a single employee said that, rather than Glassdoor.

  2. No wonder they like they job, since they don’t give s**t about their customers. I’m talking about a huge issue that is an isolation between customers feedback and employees.

Suppose you have a severe issue with your Apple product, and this issue’s source is impossible to find neither for service nor for Apple Care.
What is your choice? All you can do is groaning to Apple Care, who have their stupid regulations, which forbid them from e.g. replacing the broken product. There is no address, contact point for escalation or filing a complaint.

Currently I’m struggling with my 8 month Macbook Pro Retina, which suddenly keeps shutting off without a reason – then it can only be launched while plugged in, even when the battery is full!
Want to hear the rest of the story? Official Apple services check the laptop, can’t find an issue in any hardware piece, and send the laptop back to me again. Then I am encountering the same problem again.

It is a mysterious problem, somewhere in the computer. No one knows what it is. But who’s issue is that? Mine or Apple’s? Apple Care supporters tell me that they won’t do anything unless broken hardware is identified. BTW it’s not software issue, it’s been excluded by several tests.

Now, I am out of options. With no address for escalation. Incompetent Apple Care is the only department I can contact. Oh sorry, there is also apple.com/feedback, but as they claim they don’t even have to reply to the feedback given.

This sucks! And I’m not surprised that Apple employees are happy with their jobs! I would be happy too if I didn’t have to take responsibility for the product I’m working on at my job!

    Yours sincerely,
    Konrad

  3. How is this any different than any product that you say you are having a problem with but yet when you bring it to the manufacturer the problem can not be replicated?
If you have a car that keeps having a problem and you bring it in and the problem doesn’t occur while they rare diagnosing it, what are they to do? Replace the car anyway?
So yes, it is your problem until you can actually show that your MacBook is actually having the problem. You know, actual evidence of the malfunction?

  4. No wonder they like they job, since they don’t give s**t about their customers

youre mistaken. apple consistently ranks highest in consumer satisfaction rankings, in part because of their support.

sorry your laptop is broken. have you brought it to an apple store to show them the problem? theyve swapped out in-warranty products for me on the few occasions i had trouble.

  5. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough. The problem does replicate in service. Like yesterday, when the service was giving it back to me as “perfectly OK”.
Besides, I have an evidence on the video (shot with my iPhone). Apple Care doesn’t care about it either.

  6. Lucky you. The closest Apple Store to my location is 800km away. All I have near me is bunch of “Premium Resellers”.
Reality of living in Poland – you pay for the product more than in the “Western” world and you get worse support.

  7. I have been in Apple stores countless times. If there has been a problem it was either repaired or replaced. No questions asked.

I have never heard anyone say what you are saying here, ever. If your case was typical Apple would not get such high marks and praise for there technical support. If your laptop “suddenly keeps shutting off without a reason” then it would be fixed or replaced. Because the person analyzing it can not figure out why it is doing this would be no reason to return the laptop to you.

If you have not already, try going to an Apple store if one is available or an Apple certified dealer/repair facility. If the MacBook is suddenly shutting down it will be repaired. You must have run into one person or a few who just don’t know what they are doing. What you are saying here is counter to every story I have ever heard.

In fact, I have brought things in that were out of warranty but within a few months and they have ALWAYS made an exception and fixed it for free. That is one of the big reasons I stick with Apple.

Since you are in Poland (I just read below) contact Apple directly and let them now about the shabby support. They will help you.

  8. Let’s always keep in mind the distinctions between the home office and the retail locations. Here’s my favorite headline on the Glassdoor page:

“Best Retail Job But It’s Still Just a Retail Job”

  9. James, thanks for this post.
Let me state that again, there is literally no Apple Store in Poland (sadly). There are certified facilities, which I have to deal with. And they are unsatisfactory.
If it relates to contact Apple directly – I searched for such a contact, and couldn’t find any, what led to first post under this article. I would like to contact Apple directly, but all I have is Apple Care (guy teaches me how to press power button – sic!) and apple.com/feedback (only way to complaint about Apple Care)…

  10. What a stupid rant. Every single issue I’ve ever had with an Apple product has been addressed to my satisfaction when I have actually gone to an Apple store or called support.

Google? I’ve contacted them dozens of times throughout the years, re various products, software and hardware, and not ONCE have I even received a damned response. Apple’s support can’t be perfect, but I’m pretty sure it’s the best of whats out there. They have replaced machines for me for free, out of warranty, multiple times. Good luck getting that kind of service from anyone else.

  11. Well, I disagree. I thought Apple has the same, high quality standards all around the world, but I was wrong.

  12. Well, something is weird here. Keep calling, escalate the case if you must. That is an official Apple support number. Poland or not, it should be the same excellent Apple support they have won awards for.
