The Uber story

I loved reading this story by Kara Swisher profiling Travis Kalanick, the CEO of Uber. It takes guts and a lot of belief in your company to do what Kalanick did to get Uber off the ground.

  1. He’s a libertine (not libertarian, many of them are very decent people) who thinks he’s above the law. I would never patronize his business. Putting up some sociopathic bozo like Kalanick as a shining example of someone to admire is less than beneficial for people seeking to find mentors and leaders worth emulating.

  2. It seems to be easier to get your company off the ground if you’re willing to disregard both law and ethics.

  3. I’m surprised there aren’t more comments on this post–specifically, reactions to the admiration Jim seems to show for Kalanick. Uber is the incarnation of most of the modern vices that are quickly bringing humanity, and the world with it, to its knees.
