David Smith:
Since getting my iPhone 6 a few weeks ago I’ve been continuously trying to optimize the configuration of my home screen. The larger screen means that I now have an extra row of icons to fit onto the screen, but the physical size of device means that I can’t actually comfortably reach them.
Since you can’t arbitrarily place icons on your home screen this means the situation is actually worse. I now have to fill in the top row of icons with ‘stuff’ just so that I can easily reach my main icons without stretching.
I poked around at finding a better way and this was my solution. No weird hacks or jailbreak required.
An easy to do “hack” for those who have an issue with getting to the top row of icons on your iPhone 6 Plus.
Ok, I officially don’t get it…
Puzzled…
Odd. Sort of reminds me how some devs use to create finder windows for software installer discs by arranging blank or colored folders in a tight grid.
Utterly ridiculous! Apple needs to get off the Springboard bandwagon. Give us our homescreen freedom.
Or just put in a link to The Loop and any other websites you might just occasionally frequent.
maybe allowing empty positions, but even then i doubt it…the reason imagine apple has all icons flow is so non-techie users (the majority of people) dont accidentally drag icons around and “lose” them three screens over.
it doesnt seem like a big enough problem to solve — i put least-used icons at the top, and use Reachability when i want to use them.it takes half a second to pull them down.
No one would lose an icon 3 screens over. Just give us a “desktop” to put what we want when we want it. Make Springboard accessible through an dedicated “start” button at the bottom or something.
This has been solved many times over. Forcing a locked grid is ridiculous in 2014.

I did this same thing — with the same no-blank-apple-icon-disapointment — a week after getting my 6, to emulate the home screen layout from my 5. : D
