Installer shows off Siri, CarPlay integration

Josh Carr (really, that’s his name!) does an incredibly detailed walkthrough of one of Pioneer’s new in dash CarPlay compatible receivers. He starts off by building an install disc, then does the install itself. But the real value is the third video, where Carr puts CarPlay through its paces. Great job.

  1. sweet. nice looking interface. does everything i had hoped Pioneer’s AppRadio 1 would do, but didn’t, and amazingly still doesn’t.

  2. I can see why there’s a concern about how this would result in distracted driving. It seems like he has to look at the screen a lot. Maybe after you used it for a while, it would be easier to use without looking, but I dunno.

I also remember seeing somewhere (Mythbusters?) that the same part of your brain that you use for driving is used for having a conversation, whether it’s with a passenger or on a cellphone. That gave me pause.

I have an old car with a multi-CD changer but I try to only use it for simple things like track advance where I know the buttons with a quick glance and then feel confident I can hit them without taking my eyes off the road.
