China’s “big three” telecom carriers — China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile — recorded over 1 million preorders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus only six hours after they began accepting them for the new phone’s Oct. 10 debut.
Buyers have been able to place their preorders at operators’ online and brick-and-mortar stores as well as their subsidiaries. The total number of preorders could exceed 2 million if they included those sold through distributors such as Suning Appliance and D.Phone.
UPDATE: Benjamin Mayo at 9to5mac reports the number is now 4 million preorders.
Pleasing to see that this exaggerated bending story doesn’t seem to have affected sales. Once the dust settles, looks like the numbers are going to be huge.
Let’s not forget that these are pre-pre-orders. “Official” Apple pre-orders don’t start until next Friday.
now where’s that dubious NYTimes article about iPhone 6 black market sales being disappointing?
To be fair, they were “only” getting a 50% mark up, Bodes well for Apple when the scalpers are getting a premium, coz the office prices will be cheap in comparison.
I’m starting to wonder how the iPhone 6 is selling so well. Just got mine. Everything about it is better except the form factor. Too big and the rounded edges.
It’s so much more difficult to use one handed than the iPhone 5S. And the rounded edges are much more uncomfortable.
I’ll hold on to the 5S for a year. I HOPE Apple releases a smaller phone next year!
i find the rounded edges to be more comfortable, not less.
the thinness can be trickier tho — my 3G and 3GS were much more palm-able
