Google builds free products in order to build profiles and collect massive amounts of user data for those profiles. Google then sells access to that those user profiles and that user data to advertisers via keyword buys and advertising placements. Period.
You don’t need to parrot your hate of google every single time google appears in the news you know.

No, Schmidt is aware of these things and what makes Apple products so successful. He certainly did in 2007 at Macworld, before Google decided they wanted to compete against Apple rather than continue to partner. He’s just a talking head, with no shame. Schmidt is living proof that Steve Jobs’ judgement was not always sharp and bulletproof, he had lapses in judgement just like everyone else.
Yeah, but then that just puts them in the same level as apple. Why complain about google not allowing or splitting or modifieing when apple never did in the first place?

Hard to listen to Denis O’Brien whine “unfair” when he is a newly minted billionaire who has made his money by giving no quarter to partners, customers or the like. And ripped off some of the world’s poorest people with sophisticated bait and switch marketing while he wines and dines the autocrats who rule them. If he had Google’s market power, he would abuse it in ways that would make people cry for the good old days of “benevolent despots” like Schmidt and Larry Page.
