If you haven’t already, take a few minutes to step through Apple’s iOS 8 what’s new web site. Once you make your way through that main page, click on the icons at the top of the page to explore changes that came with Messages, Photos, etc., and topics like Continuity, Family Sharing, and QuickType.
iOS 8 is an incredibly rich upgrade. Stepping through these pages will give you a sense of the major new capabilities so you can take advantage of them.
Perhaps this is the right place to post this particular question. In lists of new features, I see something that confuses me. There is one feature where message attachments self-delete after a period of time (this is great!). And another feature where we can access all message attachments (both received and sent) in one convenient place (also great!).
Don’t these two features kind of cancel each other out in terms of usefulness? Or is the intent that the venn diagram of users that utilize these two features don’t overlap much?
I’m still searching for a site that reports on the Photostream change. Photostream saved your past 1000 pictures regardless of time, for free. In iOS8, Photostream has gone away and you only get to see photos from the past 30 days. I had a full 1000 photos in Photostream before the update, now I only have 45. Apple didn’t explain this change, nor did any news site I’ve read so far.
Just to clarify after some research, the photos in your Photostream were only kept on iCloud for 30 days. There was a rolling 1000 photos kept on your device in the Photostream album. These photos were NOT migrated during the iOS 8 update, causing people to think they “lost” their photos. Hopefully most people had backed up their photos to their computer.
I don’t know. I keep thinking that most of this stuff is totally gimmicky. LOL. OL? So, you get a funny text message, and you say to yourself, oh, lemme wait to laugh until my phone is ready to record it… Ok, there it goes… Hahahahahahaha
