This bit, from Walt Mossberg’s iPhone 6 review, caught my eye:
Apple says the new iPhones have faster Wi-Fi and faster cellular LTE. In my tests, I found the iPhone 6’s Wi-Fi speeds — both downstream and upstream — were roughly double those of the 5s, and about 25 percent faster than those of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Double the wifi speed of my iPhone 5s? That’s a huge improvement.
Has any one else experienced dramatic slow down in 5s wifi speed after upgrading to ios8 preview versions? Mine is almost unusably slow.
Wow the verge actually rated the new Moto X higher than the iPhone 6+. Talk about not even trying to hide their sponsorship bias anymore.
Well, it is a preview version. I would definitely wait for the final version before fully judging the wifi speed, especially if reviewers are seeing faster speeds. (Supposedly they would have a version closer to the master?)
Wi-Fi is starting to get more notice as a sensible way to supplement or hand off mobile voice/data connectivity. I first saw it mentioned in a Cringely column a few years ago, then started seeing MNVOs like Republic Wireless base their rate structure on the idea. Now T-Mobile.
