If you’re upgrading to iOS 8 on Wednesday, you must resist the urge to upgrade to iCloud Drive if you want to continue to sync your phone to your Mac. Why? Well, iCloud Drive only works with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. And you all know which OS we’re still waiting on.
You can go back and upgrade at any time, but unless you want a file-syncing nightmare on your hands, you’ll wait for Yosemite’s official release.

This seems poorly thought out by Apple. At the very least, they should not offer the option to upgrade to iCloud drive until it is available across both OSX and iOS.
Yup. or maybe its not too late for them to disable the feature set… seems like the sensible thing to do?

nope, not a valid use case. betas are not suitable for production environments.
this is surprising. if they can do icloud drive for win I wonder why they don’t do a point release for prior OS X — get more people on board with iCloud.
I would be very surprised if Apple doesn’t release an update that adds iCloud Drive support for OS X 10.7.2 and later.
Oops. I upgraded to iCloud Drive last month. Yes, I was running iOS 8 beta (on a test iPod touch) and Yosemite beta (on my personal iMac) at the time. And no, my personal iPhone 5 and MacBook Pro don’t sync Pages or Numbers docs correctly to those devices any more. Did briefly, but hasn’t synced Pages or Numbers since about a week and a half ago.
Having said that, other apps do sync just fine. Notes, Mail, Safari bookmarks etc. all seem to sync fine between iOS 7 / 8 and Mavericks / Yosemite. It’s just the iWork apps that don’t sync as far as I can tell.
Or you could download the OS X Yosemite GM. Very, very solid. Golden, even.
