Apple:
If you would like U2’s Songs of Innocence removed from your iTunes music library and iTunes purchases, you can choose to have it removed. Once the album has been removed from your account, it will no longer be available for you to redownload as a previous purchase. If you later decide you want the album, you will need to get it again. The album is free to everyone until October 13, 2014 and will be available for purchase after that date.
Here you go.
Forget about removing it, I can’t even find it. Sigh. For example, on my iOS device, it says that the option is coming soon.
on my Apple TV it shows up right on my first row of stuff.
Found it now, just lying there in Albums. Sigh.
Why remove it? Could have been worse. Some stuttering individual yelling to the sound of a broken diesel engine, for example.
Joe Schmuck : Apple, why don’t you give me more free stuff, I want free stuff and I want it now.
Apple : Hi, have some free stuff.
Joe Schmuck : That’s not the free stuff I wanted and I am OUTRAGED, OUTRAGED I TELL YOU. You didn’t give me the free stuff I wanted. AND you put it my phone without asking.
Apple : Sigh.
Junk mail, no matter the form, is junk mail. Should I be happy about the spam in my inbox simply because it is “free”? Just because a collection of insipid tunes are free does not make them any less insipid or wanted. This was a cheap marketing stunt and it stinks of crass and mainstream lack of imagination. Junk is junk is junk and I would prefer not to have to erase something I do not want. Apple would have made this opt in, not opt out or given us a junk filter for iTunes.
So pathetic that people can be upset about getting something for free. People these days are so whiny and entitled.
The thing is, they didnt install it on your unit. They gave you the option to download.
Now, crawl back under your stone.
Let me leave a flaming turd on your doorstep for free. Don’t complain now or I’ll accuse you of being “whiny” and “pathetic” 😉
Grammy Award-winning artist vs. defication / something that would generally be sold for money vs. something you flush down the toilet – great metaphor dude! rolls eyes
Check again – it installed on many people’s units. It was also added to iTunes match without consent. An optional “opt-in” download would have been fine. That could have been ignored. This was not the case.
It is amazing how many people will defend a crass marketing ploy. U2 wormed their way into millions of devices simply because they had the clout to make a deal with Apple. It was pathetic when Samsung based a marketing ploy around Jay Z’s album. It is pathetic when Apple operates on the same wavelength. The sad part is seeing fellow Apple fans defend the company blindly when they clearly blundered. For those who like U2 this was a great deal. For everyone else this is a prime example of marketing and technological power unchecked.
Great sense of humour dude!
in “many people’s”?
it ain’t in mine.
first world problem.
